I made this stamp tonight

I was planning on making a map, but something I saw today made me think of something else and one thing lead to another and the next thing you know I'm rushing home from work to make a face stamp.

I started with this picture:

I imported it into Picnik and used the "posterize" effect:

I printed it out, taped it to some transfer paper, placed it on top of my my pink rubbery block and traced around the black parts to transfer the image to the carving block:

And after carving away all the pink bits, I was left with this stamp:

I can't even tell you how happy this makes me.  I'm going to go stamp it all over everything I own and then think about all the other face stamps I want to make.

maybe tomorrow I'll make my map.

  2. wow this is so cool. I want to learn how to make stamps too. What kind of rubber do you use? Can a typical eraser do? Your work is amazing!

  3. What a cool idea... that would be one of my to-do´s the next time. First I order 3 hours more for each day to make all the things, that are on my list ;-) hugzzz

  4. Brilliant idea! I have been pondering some ideas for new stamps ... mine tend to be basic acorns, leaves, hearts ... not sure how well my hair would translate in rubber :)

I also love your layered piece ... wanted to say I often discover things that irk me or don't balance with the whole when looking at a scan or a photo of something I've done. What vexes me most is having to go through all the work of photographing, uploading and editing the documentary picture!

Happy weekend to you! We are in a snowstorm and I am looking forward to two full days home to play :)

  5. What a clever idea and SO well executed. This is something I haven't tried yet and so am in awe when someone is able to do something like this - so complex! I'd be stamping it everywhere too!!

  6. You are making me want to make a stamp. I've been talking about it for awhile but haven't made one in over a year.I love the paint effect that you have on this image too. Is the orange a wash? I've been trying to work on my painting skills.

You can make your own wrapping paper and give every gift at Xmas wrapped in your visage....nobody would have to ask who it was from :)
