Working in series....yeah...that's what I'm doing....

For the last few days I've been using a lot of black, white, red and purple.  I'd like to say there was a grand plan, but in truth, the series springs from not cleaning my desk at all this week.  I sit down at night to make an index card and all of yesterday's (and the day before's) paint and scraps are still scattered about.  I could probably invent some profound artist's statement about the meaning of my new series, but really it's a series about being too lazy to reach for a different color.

I got a little crazy on this one and introduced teal (but only because I found an index card that already had teal paint on it.)

I was right back to the black, white, red & purple the next day.

As of this writing, order (or what passes for it in my house) has been restored.

I wonder what tomorrow's card will look like?

  1. Go with what works (red, black, white, purple!)!! :D Mine is staple (lazy, no gluing, yay!) collages :D. Love the bubble/cellular-ness on 7/8 #3 - what is it? And the desk…well done. Wanna come over and tackle mine (at least twice as big, twice as messy, and not cleaned/cleared off! :D)?

    1. it's just little tiny circles doodled in fine point pen inside a larger circle. (traced the big circles with a stencil)

  2. LOL! Your before picture looks like my desk most of the time. Last week I had to use a magazine on my lap for a flat surface!
I love your color combos, the first one is my favorite.

  3. Love these colors together, and the dynamic look from all the circles. My favorite by far though I the one with the date stamp.

    1. it surprised me how much I ended up liking that one. It was kind of a late-night, phoning-it-in art session.

  6. I would like to say that working in series is good discipline.....but, in your case, perhaps not (lol). However it does produce some very cohesive work....and yours is lovely.

  7. Great cards you've made! You've inspired me to start using some of my postage stamps. And a messy desk is a happy desk in my house (because that means I've had time to create) or that is what I tell myself when I need to clean...lol

    1. my desk is happy all the time!
I've had this huge bag of postage stamps for a year (found at a flea market last summer) and I've been "saving them for something special."
As if I'm going to suddenly need hundreds of largely unremarkable cancelled postage stamps. I finally started using them like crazy this week, and I've barely made a dent.

  8. I know what you mean about the stamps. I have stacks of them picked up at an estate sale and I've been 'saving' them too. Silly! Maybe that's the thing I'll try to let go of this week! Great series of cards.....my fave is the 7/7 #2, it feels slightly Asian, very zen to me. My 'theme' for many of my cards is a little lettering and whatever I can draw with my inktense. It's too hot to go in my art room!

  9. These are all so cool...I like the color combination. And I'm happy to see I'm not the only one with a messy work area but then you had to go and clean it up! Now I'm the only one again. :-(
