Musical Musings Prompt - Faith

This is my second completed "musical musings" prompt from A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

The Prompt: Faith
The Song: Heaven help me by Gretchen Wilson
Product/Technique: Wings

The song didn't do much for me, and I wasn't moved to respond to faith in the religious sense.
But a day after reading the new prompt I saw someone's Facebook status had the following (uncredited) quote: "You block your dreams when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith" and THAT spoke to me. Starting this blog, participating in challenges and generally showing my work to others has been a huge leap of faith, and has required a great deal of working through fear. But of course the more I do it, and the more feedback I get, the more excited and inspired I become. I dare to dream. I get lost in the process of creating. I turn off the inner critic and just play. So where does faith come in? I guess it's faith in myself. Faith in a supportive family and community. Faith that art is an important thing for me to be working on right now.

My son took this picture of me a few years back. He was about 5 at the time and very excited to be using my camera. I didn't know he was taking the picture because I was working on something (don't remember what). I chose the picture because it's my "art face" - both focused, and a little bit nervous (I am biting the inside of my lower lip in the picture - noticeable perhaps only to those who know me, but since I do it all the time when I'm thinking or worrying, I've learned to recognize it on my own face). Putting the picture in this context reminds me to keep the calm focus, stop biting the lip, let go of the fear, have faith in the process and learn to fly.

  1. I love everything about this!! My favorite pieces are those that people have taken a prompt and waited until they could make them THEIRS. Thanks so much for sharing!!

  2. I love those 2fers. More often than not I need 2 prompts to come up with a theme.
This is beautiful, love the background, the punchinilla wings, and the way you incorporated your own photo!
